Local Chambers of Commerce for CO3 3DW. These can be an extraordinarily effective way of getting into the business community and / or getting things done. Equally they can be entirely useless depending on the chair. If they have networking events associated with them definitely go, and keep going, if you have a business that need local support. What you put in is exactly what you get out. Below is the national site. Watch this slot - it might improve!
Colchester Borough Council

Rowan House, 33 Sheepen Rd, Colchester CO3 3WG, UK – 01206 282222

Saw a property that required renovating and extending for our private use. Went to Rowan House, unannounced, and had a short meeting with one of the officers, which proved very helpful. I purchased the property, had plans submitted. Everything went smoothly and any comments were of a constructive theme. A pleasing experience.

HM Revenue & Customs

14 Headgate, Colchester CO3 3BS, UK – 0843 504 0633

Colchester Library

Trinity Square, Colchester CO1 1JB, UK – 0345 603 7628

Well spaced and nice collection of books. I would have given it 5 stars if they had provided toilets. Other than that, it's brilliant 👍

Fantastic library! It's a bright and welcoming space, with a nice cafe upstairs and a very nice quiet study area. The staff are kind and friendly; I needed a difficult-to-find book and they quickly located a copy and had it sent to the library so I didn't have to travel to pick it up. Their collection of popular fiction, classic lit and nonfiction is impressive. If I can't find something at the uni library, it's usually at the Colchester library. All in all, it's a great asset to the community, and I feel very lucky to have it!

Dental Surgeries

Evergreen Dentistry

294 London Rd, Stanway, Colchester CO3 8PB, UK – 01206 213746

I have been a patient at Evergreen Dentistry for almost 2 years and I am very happy to recommend them. I have always received a good service with high quality treatment. I'm personally not a fan of going to the dentist at the best of times but both the dentist and hygienist make each appointment as smooth as possible with a great bedside (chairside?) manner and by explaining what they're doing and why. I have had a couple of fillings with Evergreen and both procedures were painless experiences and I have had no problems since.

Staff were very professional and friendly. Made me feel at ease. Would highly recommend.

The Art Of Dentistry

3 The Avenue, Colchester CO3 3PA, UK – 01206 574011

Great dentists and a great service. Highly recommend for a first class service.

The Smile Clinic

39 St Botolph's St, Colchester CO2 7EA, UK – 01206 767471

I love my dentist !! He has restored my faith and makes me feel relaxed. Takes time to explain every thing and is a dab hand at extractions !!! Busy practice and lovely staff. The new receptionist is very calm under stressful situations with the public and is very helpful.

Best dentist i have ever been too. Hygienist Jo is Brilliant, very gentle. Everyone there is 1st rate

Ambrose Avenue Group Practice

76 Ambrose Ave, Colchester CO3 4LN, UK – 01206 549444

I've always had a good experience with the surgery, with making appointments and also repeat prescriptions. I've made a few mistakes like forgetting to order things and sometimes needing to be seen at a particular time or at short notice and I've found that the staff have really tried to help. I'd also say that my GP Dr Rassell has been great, she's always listened to my concerns, has been kind and helpful and has always made follow up referrals for me.

North Hill Surgery Dr Baldwin & Partners

18 North Hill, Colchester CO1 1DZ, UK – 01206 578070

While some of my friends and family find it difficult to find a doctor willing to listen to them and to suggest more than taking paracetamol, I found here one of the best GPs I have ever talked to. Dr. Claire Cooper always pays attention, takes one's worries seriously, listens carefully and sent me for future medical investigations every time it was the case. I think she does a brilliant job and I am happy that there are still people like her in the NHS.

Tollgate Practice

145 London Rd, Stanway, Colchester CO3 8NZ, UK – 01206 574483

Group practice. Waiting room has a tv. Lots of seating in waiting area.

Today I had a no-scalpel vasectomy performed by Dr Speers and his associate, along with another nurse who were all, in equal measure, absolutely amazing. They all made me feel at perfect ease and although I personally (everyone is different, I know) felt a fair amount of pain due to a low threshold, I was made to feel as comfortable as humanly possible (and, I'm told by the wife, a significant amount of anaesthetic, thankfully) and my wife being allowed to sit by me whilst it was happening was another nice thing. We were even offered cake by the very polite and professional young gentleman at reception. A massive thank you to all who helped me and I will be highly recommending the Tollgate clinic to others. May I also say how very reasonably priced (345GBP) the whole procedure was. Kind regards, Mark.

NHS Direct is now NHS 24. Just dial 111 to speak to a professional or click the link below for there self help website. Lots of really useful info but keep clear of heart surgery! If in doubt ask your GP or call 111. Good luck.

Colchester General Hospital

Turner Rd, Colchester CO4 5JL, UK – 01206 747474

I have visited the hospital twice in the last two weeks and have the reception to be excellent, the staff very polite and helpful in making you feel comfortable and relaxed. The treatment was of the highest standard and felt I couldn't be in more professional surroundings. I left feeling very impressed and the hospital should be congratulated.

Have been trying to contact the neurology secretaries for over a week. Always on answerphone and messages are never returned. Have since been contacted and understand that they are very busy. They were extremely helpful.

The Lakes Mental Health Hospital

132 Turner Rd, Mile End, Colchester CO4 5JT, UK – 01206 228712

I've done several stints of rehab here and whilst the later hospital is more locked down, clinical treatment is good and if you are scared, violent and have to be restrained, this is done with the minimum force, no deliberate brutality. It's cheaper than The Priory, so if you've gone on a trip you can't get yourself down from, ring their number and ask to speak with a crisis team or ask your GP to refer you. It can be very scary due to the nature of patients being emotionally disturbed. My only gripe is there is understaffing and presumably the pay isn't great for the staff so they need longer hours, which doesn't help this most highly stressed situation. Another problem I've encountered is issues surrounding section paperwork. You are entitled to legal representation and advocacy if you are to be held in a rehab facility against your will, this is not always forthcoming. Worst still patients under section have been asked to sign other paperwork, including adoption forms, immigration, criminal confession and other life changing issues when they are legally not in the capability to sign them. Essex Social Services are the most regular breakers of that law and this needs to be exposed. That said, there's a good community spirit among the patients/inmates (if it's got locks it's by definition a prison) , and great chances to learn from each other as well as the excellent staff and community volunteers of all grades. You can learn a lot there, it would be a good place to learn about mental health and Anglia Ruskin University has used the facility in in-work training schemes for nurses and doctors.

Very good

Oaks Hospital

120 Mile End Rd, Mile End, Colchester CO4 5XR, UK – 01206 752121

Very nice and professional staff. Top standard care.

This place looks and feels like a premium hospital (very clean), I went here for a gastroscopy, the staff here are great and professional, the process took a while to go through and there was a wait, but thats because i was referred here instead of being a member (as such) as it tooks a few weeks to get the actual gastroscopy appointment. The gastroscopy appointment itself was fine, they know exactly what there doing and was glad to be referred here. Also the parking was free, which is always a bonus, specially as I never carry change with me.

Find Recycling Centres

Colchester Recycling Centre for household waste

Maldon Rd, Colchester CO3 4RN, UK

If you are lucky and time it just right you can have a quick visit.. otherwise be prepared to queue for ages. Why not change the parking layout so people have to reverse in at an angle to the skips, it would mean so many more cars could fit in. Often spaces at the top end of the facility but people tend to wait for spaces as they enter so queues tend to be longer than necessary. Why not have someone directing traffic?

Visit at peak times (weekend) and queues to the gosbecks roundabout are to be expected. Otherwise a simple get in and dump operation. Staff are helpful when you're not sure which bin to use. Height restrictions for vans.

Colchester Man and Van

87 London Rd, Colchester CO3 9AN, UK – 07837 843090

We recently used them to move our items. The guys worked so quickly and were so polite and careful with our boxes! They even accommodated one of us to go in the van with them to the new house. They waited patiently for us to check in and look at our new rooms before delivering our items, putting every item in the required room so we wouldn't have to move anything heavy. I would use them again and I would definitely recommend them to anyone planning a move in Colchester

Nothing was too much trouble during our move. Very helpful and considerate, would highly recommend.

Skip Hire Core Fusion Limited

52 Sweet Briar Rd, Stanway, Colchester CO3 0HH, UK – 07717 134153

After being quoted over £400 for a skip to empty a garage I called Leila and they were able to do it for just £220. Excellent company, fabulous customer service and I highly recommend them. Thank you Leila and the team - you will be our first port of call when we need you again in the future.

I contacted Mr Mark Dicker of Core Fusion Limited in September 2016. He was very pleasant to speak to on the phone and suggested he meets me at my property to be able to quote for work I wanted to have done. He was very professional from the minute I meet him. He assessed the work and also suggested few bits that I wanted done but wasn\'t to sure on the design. He designed the whole downstairs of the house and consulted with me every step of the way. He informed me of the costings if I wanted more expensive things and told me where we can save money for example reusing materials. During the work in my house I knew there will be dusty as we was removing the walls but to be honest every day I found the house very clean on my return from work. House was hovered and dust was gone from surfaces that were exposed. All other furniture was covered with dust sheets to protect. I now have completely new downstairs part of the house that works much better for my family and he is currently redesigning my upstairs of the house. Mark can do whatever you ask him to do he is really talented. He has given me and my family a real peace of mind and I\'\'m able to trust him my house key while I\'m at work so he can do his job. Thank you Mark

Give and get free stuff. Here you will find lots of items that people are willing to give away, for FREE! This is instead of taking them to a local landfill site. The aim of this site is to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill (20.9 million tonnes of it last year in the UK) and recycling is great news for the environment.
We all know that we need to recycle more - and this is a great way of doing it.

Local Restaurants & Places to Eat around Colchester

Sloppy Joe's American Bar & Restaurant

37 High St, Colchester CO1 1DH, UK – 01206 577229

Food is really good, however they had no ribs when we went! A bit sad given it's so called high reputation. Prices were fair and the staff polite and helpful.

Large, filling plates. The menu is simple but broad offering a full selection of American type dishes. The pasta is amazing having great full taste.

Noodle Zone Restaurant

19-21 Crouch St, Colchester CO3 3EN, UK – 01206 575111

The noodle zone is our favourite "too tired to cook" restaurant. It is always welcoming, the food is always carefully prepared and excellent value for money. The Malaysian specialties are great, and for comfort food, the noodle soups are terrific: won ton soup and duck soup are our favourites. Watch for the specials.

The food here is really really good. I am not even joking. I really like the Malaysian food! Highly recommend Nasi Lemak or their Malaysian set meal if you want to try the Malaysian food👍🏿

Preto

59 High St, Colchester C01 1DH, UK – 01206 570420

Fantastic food and really friendly staff, the meat was all fresh and tasted amazing! Initially you think it's a bit pricey at £20 a head but then if you went out somewhere for a starter and steak you could pay a lot more than that!! Buffet had great choices including lots of pasta and more meat than just the ones on offer by the servers! Definitely would go again and there is a children's option too.

All you can eat with 2 set menu choices and a children's option (same choices just cheaper). The food was absolutely amazing, if I could've managed more I would never have left. Service was exemplary and they went out of their way to accommodate my daughter when she asked for something to draw with whilst she was waiting.

Nursery and Preschools

Safari Childcare

79 Halstead Rd, Colchester CO3 9AD, UK – 01206 546824

This is a great nursery. It has a homely feel and the garden has just been revamped and looks amazing. The staff are lovely and are happy to help if you have any concerns. The food menu is good and they cater for dairy and soya free children. Highly recommend

They are lovely people and even better with kids. They are ever ready to help us as parents and help us a lot with the inputs that we give them. God bless!!!!!!!

Lexden Montessori

5 Oxford Rd, Colchester CO3 3HN, UK – 01206 760863

I love Lexden Montessori, I worked here! It is a fun, loving environment that feels like home. The Montessori approach is incredible & truly gives children a great start in life.

Having visited various nurseries in the area I can honestly say that in my opinion Lexden Montessori offer a incredibly high quality level of care at a suprisingly affordable price.

Colchester High School & Nursery

15 Wellesley Rd, Colchester CO3 3HD, UK – 01206 573389

Our only experience of independent education, having been very happy with state in the past. We wanted a secondary school that would celebrate and value the individual in our child. The surroundings were of little interest, we are not aspirational or social climbers who need a fancy setting. Also we were not prepared to submit our 11 year old to a life of commuting to Ipswich. We were looking for dedicated staff and a place for our son to breathe, grow and shine. We found it and feel it was one of our best decisions in parenting. I would not have sent a daughter there, St Mary's would have provided the same for them, but we feel our son's talents and abilities have been noted ,encouraged and realised . As he prepares to leave after 5 years,he is a credit to us and the school.

My son in currently attending and my daughter starts in September. Kate, the admissions co-ordinator is faultless in her job as are the other staff I have met so far. My son is very happy there and his confidence has really improved which means more than any reviews or opinions. I would recommend this school to anyone.
